A middle-aged Londoner is a blog for you by me, Susie (an ex-music industry, ex-hand knitting market stall holder and current recipe writing, London loving, supper club host and Virtual Assistant who’s almost certainly got ADHD and, as well as chronic illness is being well and truly battered by menopause). It’s an extension of my home, you’ll meet my friends and family here as well as people who inspire and entertain me.

When I was in my early 40s (I’m now in my early 50s) I felt quite lost, I was at a different place to many of my friends, my children were young adults, my marriage was on the rocks, and I was doing a job I didn’t want to be doing. I wanted more fun, more fabulosity, more freedom - I wanted to connect with people like me, people who didn’t see their age as a reason to ‘become old’. I turned to the internet, to blogs, to try to find my people and couldn’t. So, here I am, 10 years later, creating what I needed then (and still need now).

Whether you’re approaching middle-age (you can self-define when that is, but I say rising 40 onwards) or heading out the other side, you’re welcome here as long as you have a desire to live life honestly and, yes, fabulously.

I’ll be shining a light on the people, places, and things that make life interesting and full of beauty.

Expect reviews, recipes, interviews, tips and tricks and How Tos, things to do and places to go and more - a veritable source book for those of us who are intent on living life well and who know that we are no less incredible and vibrant than when we were a few years younger. We are still us. We eschew “anti-ageing” and '“diets” and celebrate just getting on and living your best life.

This is a space that celebrates our multi-faceted, diverse brilliance. Issuing a gentle call to action, an encouragement to live life passionately and to invite our badass selves to the table.

But these years do carry with them pressures - stresses and strains and I’ll be covering those too - we don’t shy away from the truths of life, we just seek to get the best out of it that we possibly can.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve got a bit of disposable income but, you know… you still have a mortgage (rent) and bills to pay. I don’t want these pages to encourage you to go into debt so I’ll try to keep things accessible - with the odd flight of fancy here and there for inspo. I also feel pretty strongly that we’re all over-consuming so, I’m not going to be encouraging you to go out buying stuff all the time - I’m far more interested in experiences.

I’m building a community here and I’d love you to join me.

Welcome home. I’m honestly overjoyed to have you here. Sign up to “The Diary of a middle-aged Londoner” for my newsletter.
